How to Transfer Beads to Knitting Thread

Step 1 Start with a hank of beads. You can also pick up loose beads onto sewing thread and go to step 5.
Step 2 Untie the hank. BE CAREFUL. There are 10-12 strands held together by the knot. It might help to use a sharp pointy tool such as a jeweler's awl. I would then recommend capturing all the end in scotch tape. You will be able to pull one thread out of the tape without "losing control" over the rest of the threads.
Step 3 Carefully pull out one end of one strand.
Step 4 Get ready to tie a knot. Be careful about the beads falling off the opposite end of this strand. If you have the other end stuck in the scotch tape, it will be so much easier.
Step 5 Tie HALF a knot but do not pull the tail tight. Leave a little circle like this.
Step 6 Insert the end of the perle cotton into this little circle. Make sure at least 2" of the perle cotton is through the circle.
Step 7 Tighen the knot you made in the hank strand around the perle cotton.
Step 8 Slide the beads from the hank strand, over the knot and onto the perle cotton.
Step 9 Continue transferring the beads off the hank strand over the knot and onto the perle cotton.
Step 10 Pull the empty thread off the perle cotton. Repeat the steps for as many strands as you need to transfer.
